Sally Farrington is a watercolor artist currently living in Belleville, Illinois. Born in Ohio, transplanted to the south for a few decades, Sally is now back in the Midwest is starting a new adventure in her 1908 home.
Largely a self-taught artist, Sally studied elementary education at the University of Cincinnati. She currently splits her time between working in her home studio and as the Art Director at the Leu Civic Center in Mascoutah, IL teaching, running the art studio, and coordinating the Metro East Youth Art Show. Sally is also the Publicity/Website Chair for Gateway East Artists Guild.
Statement:
I am continually captivated by the strength and delicacy found in the natural world. My work largely focuses on botanical subjects painted in deep, saturated colors that challenge the traditional softness often associated with watercolor. Through interesting compositions and unexpected perspectives, I seek to highlight the resilience, grace, and quiet beauty of florals, plants, and animals.
While watercolor remains my primary medium, I enjoy exploring new creative territory through collage, acrylics, and other media, discovering fresh ways of interpreting the world around me. Whether through a single bloom or an abstract layering of color and texture, my goal is to reveal beauty in both the obvious and the overlooked—to invite the viewer into a moment of stillness, wonder, and connection.
